The Gin Foundry Europa London Dry Gin has been awarded a Gold Medal for Taste at the World Gin Awards in the London Dry Gin Category. The World Gin Awards are the global awards selecting the very best in all internationally recognized styles of Gin.
Presented by TheDrinksReport.com, the world’s no.1 online resource for drinks professionals, the World Gin Awards select, reward and promote the world’s best Gins to consumers and trade across the globe. The Gin Foundry Europa went head to head against Gin producers from all over the Globe and came away with a Gold.
Upon winning this prestigious award, company founder Chris McClain said, “It is fantastic to be recognized by our peers and industry experts for the hard work, passion, and love that we put into Europa. We truly believed that we had created something special but to be awarded a Gold Medal in this competition is truly gratifying. To receive a Gold, after medaling late last year in NY World Wine and Spirits Competition, is extremely exciting!”
The results of the 2018 World Gin Awards were announced on 15 February in London at the Honorable Artillery Company London at the Gin Magazine Awards Dinner. The event was attended by over 120 international Gin producers, industry experts, and journalists. Gin Magazine presented the World Gin Awards winners in taste and design. The taste awards were chaired by David T. Smith and vice chair Cherry Constable, who presented the winners.
The judges of the first round of blind tastings are independent spirits experts, including drinks writers and educators. From their scores a winner is selected for each category and country and gold, silver and bronze medals assigned. Each country winner then competes in round 2 for the best in their category. All 9 category winners are then tasted against each other to find the World’s Best Gin.
The taste judging is held in three rounds. In Round 1, each Gin is tasted in its relevant style to identify and select the style winners. Judges making up the World Gin Awards panel include Page 2 The Gin Foundry, Europa London Dry Gin, Wins Gold Medal at World Gin Awards leading journalists, specialist drinks retailers and industry experts. During Round 2, style winners are tasted against each other to identify the ‘Best’ Gin in each category. In the final round, the ‘Best’ Gin in each category are then tasted against each other one last time to select the World’s Best Gin. Judges at this stage include those in Round 1 and 2 to whom are added a panel of leading distillers and experts from the Gin industry.
The Gin Foundry Europa was developed by Chris McClain, a Pittsburgh native, who spent over a decade traveling the world seeking out the best Gin and Gin cocktails that he could find. The Gin Foundry Europa London Dry Gin is available statewide in Pennsylvania and will be launching into other markets in the coming weeks.
For The Gin Foundry Europa, Mr. McClain carefully selected 10 botanicals sourced from along the Mediterranean Trade Routes (Ingredients: Juniper: Macedonia, Coriander: Bulgaria, Angelica Root: Belgium, Orris Root: Morocco, Fennel Seeds: Turkey, Bitter Almond: Spain, Orange Peel: Spain, Lemon Peel: Spain, Basil: Egypt, Grapefruit: Turkey). The botanicals are steeped in pure grain spirit overnight and then expertly distilled in a traditional copper pot still in the United Kingdom. Before bottling we blend our spirit with pure Mountain Spring Water in Switzerland. The botanicals deliver a fresh aromatic and citrus forward spirit with floral notes that creates a Gin that plays well in a wide range of classic and innovative Gin cocktails.
Bon Vivant Brands was founded in 2014 by Chris McClain. Mr. McClain has spent over a decade, traveling 2.5 million miles and 300 plus weeks overseas for work. When traveling, he was always on the lookout for the best cocktail bars and new Gins. There were lots of Gins to enjoy, but he wasn’t able to find a Gin that met everything he was looking for. This is a passion project seeking to fulfill that desire. He brings that love of Gin and cocktails together to create a series of Gins, called The Trade Routes Collection that enhance Classic Gin Cocktails as well as Contemporary offerings.
